The Family Committee of the Union of Muslim Scholars in Turkey held the first interactive scientific seminar in a series of seminars titled "Enhancing the Role of Scholars in Protecting the Family" at the UMAD Turkish Scholars Association. Distinguished members from various fields attended the seminar, including Mr. Abdulwahab Ekinci, the President of UMAD and a member of the Union's Board of Trustees, Dr. Camellia Helmi, the Chair of the Family Committee in the Union and a member of the Union's Board of Trustees, Dr. Rafat Mohammed Rashid Al-Miqati, the President of Tripoli University in Lebanon and a member of the Board of Directors of the International Islamic Federation of Non-Governmental Organizations, IDSB, Mr. Ali Kurt, the former Secretary-General of the International Islamic Federation of Non-Governmental Organizations, and Dr. Safwat Kousa, the Chair of the Family Committee at UMAD, in addition to a group of scholars, preachers, university professors, lawyers, and media figures.

During the seminar, the Chair of the committee presented her speech on the most important international terms and their effects on the family. Mr. Ali Kurt presented the efforts made to withdraw Turkey from the Istanbul Convention and explained its negative effects on the Turkish family. Dr. Rafat Miqati presented a speech on "legislative deception in personal status matters," and Dr. Kousa concluded by talking about the contemporary challenges facing the Muslim family.

At the end of the seminar, several recommendations were issued, the most important of which were:

  1. Working to disseminate and activate the International Family Covenant, which was prepared in cooperation between the International Union of Muslim Scholars and the International Islamic Federation of Non-Governmental Organizations.
  2. Emphasizing the need for scholars and preachers to be familiar with the precise contents of international conventions and their objectives, in order to avoid the trap of leading religious figures into providing a religious cover for these conventions, and to prevent the destruction of many of the Islamic legal provisions contained in their terms.
  3. Calling on scholars to work in collaboration with politicians and leaders to withdraw Arab and Islamic countries from international conventions related to women and children that contradict Islamic law.
  4. Call upon the Ministries of Awqaf and Religious Affairs and Fatwa institutions in Islamic countries to qualify preachers, imams, and sermon givers in the field of contemporary legislative challenges facing families, in order to educate the general public, and particularly youth, about the measures that protect families from intellectual, media, and legislative storms. This should be done in collaboration with the International Union of Muslim Scholars.
