Hundreds of volunteers from 70 countries set sail with the Global Sumud Flotilla toward Gaza to break the blockade

Ships of the “Global Sumud Flotilla” departed on Sunday from the coast of Barcelona, heading toward the Gaza Strip on a humanitarian mission aimed at breaking the blockade imposed by the Israeli occupation and delivering aid to the territory’s residents.

This marks the second such initiative in less than a year, with broader participation and significantly greater international momentum compared to the previous attempt.

In press remarks from Barcelona, flotilla spokesperson Pablo Castilla explained that the initiative primarily seeks to “denounce international complicity in the crimes of genocide being committed in Gaza, demand accountability for those responsible, and work toward opening a safe humanitarian corridor by sea and land.”

Castilla noted a decline in international attention to the situation in the Gaza Strip, attributing it to other regional developments, including U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran and Israeli attacks in Lebanon, which have negatively affected the visibility of the Palestinian cause on the international stage.

He stressed that the Israeli occupation continues to tighten its blockade on the enclave, imposing increasing restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid, alongside the expansion of settlements and the acceleration of land seizures in the Palestinian territories.

It is worth noting that the previous flotilla attempt was launched in September 2025, also from Barcelona, involving 42 boats and 462 activists. The current edition is expected to include around 70 boats and nearly 1,000 volunteers representing 70 countries, signaling a growing wave of international support for this humanitarian initiative.
