he Union strongly condemns the arrest of Muslims in the Chinese town of Nago and calls for their release and the protection of their sanctities

The International Union of Muslim Scholars vehemently condemns the recent actions carried out by the Chinese police, involving the arbitrary arrest of numerous Muslims residing in the predominantly Muslim town of Nago. This town, located in the southwestern region of the country, has been targeted due to a proposed plan to demolish the historically significant Najiang Mosque, which was constructed in the 13th century.

The Union firmly demands the immediate release of all those who have been unjustly detained, while urging the Chinese government to reconsider its decision to demolish mosques and cease its discriminatory practices against the Muslim minority within its borders.

The Union stresses the following points:

Firstly, the Union firmly asserts that the demolition of mosques and places of worship constitutes a direct violation of the legitimate rights of Muslims. Such actions not only sow discord and animosity but also incite violence and hatred. Consequently, the Union calls upon the Chinese government to respect the rights of minority groups and refrain from encroaching upon their sacred spaces, particularly their places of worship.

Secondly, the Union appeals for the establishment of international legislation that criminalizes religious defamation and the desecration of sacred symbols. The Union emphasizes the importance of adhering to the ethical teachings of various religions, which universally advocate for the prevention of insult and disrespect towards the beliefs of others.

Thirdly, the ongoing persecution faced by Muslims in China has evoked profound anguish and anger within the global Muslim community. If China persists in its wrongful practices of subjugating, persecuting, arresting, torturing, and coercing Muslims to forsake their religious practices, rituals, customs, and traditions, it will further widen the divide and jeopardize future strategic relations between China and the Islamic world.

Fourthly, the Union reiterates its unwavering commitment to promoting dialogue as the ultimate means to resolve conflicts, unequivocally rejecting hate speech and violence in all its forms, regardless of origin or motivation. The Union underscores the significance of safeguarding sacred values and religious symbols while actively discouraging the propagation of animosity through the defamation of religions and their adherents.

Furthermore, the Union urges the international community, United Nations organizations, and global leaders to defend the rights of the oppressed across all corners of the globe. It is imperative to foster an environment of coexistence, peace, and mutual respect, as only through these principles can we achieve collective prosperity, cooperation, and comprehensive development while ensuring peace and stability.
