Former Imam and Reciter at the Prophet's Mosque Sheikh Mohamed Khalil Passes Away

Sheikh Mohamed Khalil, the former imam and reciter at the Prophet's Mosque in Medina, has passed away. He died on Monday, 18th of Shawwal, 1444 AH at 2:00 am. His funeral prayer will be held after Maghrib prayer at the Prophet's Mosque.

Sheikh Mohamed Khalil intermittently led the prayer at the Prophet's Mosque and previously served as an imam and khateeb at the Abdullah Al-Husayni Mosque in Medina for many years.

Sheikh Mohamed Khalil passed away less than a year after the death of his brother, Sheikh Mahmoud Khalil, and they are the sons of the late reciter Khalil Qur'an, who passed away in 2018.

The late Khalil Qur'an traveled from Pakistan, where he hailed from Muzaffarabad, to Saudi Arabia in the early 1960s.

Social media users shared Quranic verses about death and the Day of Judgment recited by Sheikh Mohamed Khalil, who will be prayed upon at the Prophet's Mosque on Monday evening. Among those verses is "Every soul shall have a taste of death: and only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense."

The International Union of Muslim Scholars expressed their sincere condolences and prayers for Sheikh Mohamed Khalil's forgiveness, mercy, and inclusion among the prophets, the truthful, and the righteous. They also prayed for patience and solace for his family, loved ones, colleagues, and acquaintances. May Allah grant them patience and answer their prayers.
