Doha,
May 1, 2025 — In a deeply moving and dignified gathering, a solemn condolence
program was held yesterday at the Friends' Cultural Center, Doha, to honor the
remarkable life and enduring legacy of the esteemed academic, scholar, and
intellectual giant, Professor Khurshid Ahmad, who passed away recently. The
event brought together a distinguished assembly of scholars, students,
colleagues, and admirers, all united in their reverence and admiration for a

Organized
by Haqa e Ahbab Qatar, the event featured heartfelt speeches, prayers, and
reflections on Professor Ahmad's vast contributions. Attendees remembered him
not only as a pioneering scholar but also as a mentor, visionary, and advocate
for ethical and equitable development.
One
of the distinguished speakers, Dr. Iqbal, reflected on the academic journey of
the late Professor Khurshid Ahmad, emphasizing that his pursuit of education
extended far beyond the mere attainment of degrees. Rather, he embodied the
true essence of learning by applying his knowledge to every aspect of his
practical life—a fact clearly reflected in the way he lived. Dr. Iqbal noted
that Professor Khurshid never allowed age to become a barrier in his relentless
quest for knowledge. Throughout his life, his unwavering commitment was to the
establishment of a truly Islamic society, firmly grounded in the principles and
teachings exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Professor
Ahmad was best known for his role in shaping intellectual discourse on Islamic
economics. As a founding member of the Islamic Foundation in the UK and a key
figure in Jamaat-e-Islami, he influenced generations of thinkers and
policymakers. His writings and lectures continue to serve as foundational texts
in the field.
Speaking
at the event, Mr Nadeem Quraishi and Mr Zahid Awan and Dr. Iqbal , a close
associate and former students, said, “Professor Khurshid Ahmad’s academic
legacy is unmatched. His commitment to truth, justice, and moral integrity in
all spheres of life is something we must strive to uphold.”
The
other speakers included Professor Muhammad Saleem, Molana Fayaz Falahi from
India, and Mr. Raza kareem from Bangladesh.
Besides
that, Mr. Muhammad Idrees, a close associate at UK, also shared some UK
memories of Professor Khurshid Ahmad.
Special
prayers (dua) were offered for the departed soul, and a moment of silence was
observed. The event concluded with a call to continue Professor Ahmad’s mission
of promoting education, social justice, and ethical governance.
At
the conclusion of the program, Mr. Nadeem Qureshi, President of Halqa-e-Arbab
Qatar, delivered the closing remarks with heartfelt sincerity. He underscored
the enduring relevance of Professor Khurshid Ahmad’s teachings, urging all
present to not merely admire his intellectual legacy but to actively embody his
values in their own lives. He stressed that true tribute lies in carrying
forward his vision—working collectively to build a more just, compassionate,
and peaceful Islamic welfare society grounded in the principles of the Qur'an
and the Sunnah. Mr. Qureshi also expressed profound gratitude to all attendees,
scholars, and organizers for their thoughtful participation, noting that such
gatherings serve as vital reminders of our shared responsibility to uphold the
ideals that Professor Khurshid so passionately championed
throughout his life.
