The European Muslim Network took notice with great concern reliable media reports about the potential executions of three respectable Saudi scholars namely Shaykh Salman al-Ouda, Shaykh Awad al-Qarni and Dr. Ali al-Omari.

The European Muslim Network urges the Goverments of European countries and Human Rights agencies like Amnesty International and similar organisations that they uncompromisingly stand up in the defence of lives and human rights of these three prominent Muslim scholars whose only crime was to express their thoughts in line with their enlightened and well-founded religious knowledge.
Shaykh Salman al-Ouda, Shaykh Awad al-Qarni, and Dr. Ali al-Omari have been incarcerated without trial and for no justifiable reason in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for more than a year and a half and they are now facing the death penalty.

The Member States of the European Union should do everything in their power to prevent the executions of these moderate scholars who have won the hearts and minds of millions of Muslims globally while their fundamental human rights are being threatened and violated by the oppressive Saudi regime.

Islam considers all forms of life as sacred. However, the sanctity of human life has a special place in Islamic teachings. The first and the foremost fundamental right of a human being is the right to life. The Glorious Qur’an says: “If anyone kills a believer deliberately, the punishment for him is Hell, and there he will remain: Allah is angry with him, and rejects him, and He has prepared a tremendous torment for him.” (Qur’an, 4:93)

We hope that these ill-intended cases brought up against these Muslim scholars will be seen for what they are: A brutal, ruthless and systematic oppression of human life, an onslaught on human dignity and liberty as well as a criminal denial to the freedom of thought and speech.
We appeal to all people of good intent in Government and civil society to raise their voices against this great injustice perpetrated on these scholars of impeccable character.

Being a Man of Religion and standing up for truthfulness is not a crime.
