Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi participate in the "Conference of the unification of lunar months and the International Hijri calendar" in Istanbul, with scholars and astronomers and decision-makers from around the world


The Presidency of Religious Affairs in Turkey convene in cooperation with the Islamic Crescents Observation Project related to the International Astronomy, Guendla carriage and the Observatory of the University of the Bosphorus and the European Council for Fatwa, 21-23 Shaaban 1437 H, corresponding to May 28 to 30 of May. The Conference examines preparation Islamic calendar, is proposed to be used by the States and Muslim communities around the world in the official calendars.


Sheikh Qaradawi said at the opening of the conference that the two communities are seeking to unify the Calendar so that Muslims fast in one day and break their fast in one day, and pointed on the existance of scientific and practical obstacles preventing the unification of the calendar.


  The President of the IUMS called the astronomers to help scholars to unite the Muslims by the Hijri Calendar, stressing that "Sharaa with astronomy, and there is no religion urged to science, such as the Islamic religion, we have precede the West in science, but they took it from us and developed it."


  Turkish Prime Religious Affairs Mohammad Gormaz said that the conference is the culmination of efforts and research that has started in 2013 on the subject of Hijri Calendar and the sighting of the lunar month, but Gormaz cautioned that decades and the past years have seen a "negligent in the subject of research coincided between scholars and astronomers, where Fiqh delayed to renew himself in front of the facts reached by the science in the context of the growing discoveries of space, and the growth of sensitive and possibilities of accurate calculations. "

And the Presidency of Religious Affairs in Turkey convene in cooperation with the Islamic Crescents Observation Project related to the International Astronomy, Guendla carriage and the Observatory of the University of the Bosphorus and the European Council for Fatwa and researches, "the unification of lunar months and the International Hijri calendar " conference, in Istanbul on 21-23 Shaaban 1437 H, corresponding to 28- 30 May 2016, has invited scholars and astronomers and decision-makers from around the world to participate in the conference to address this issue, so as to show a Hijri calendar that the Islamic calendar conference suggest to be used by the Islamic countries in the preparation of their official calendars, and  the conference also suggest to be used by the Islamic countries and Muslim communities in various countries of the world to determine the beginning of the Hijri months practically in the coming years. The conference will be held, God willing, in seven languages: Turkish, Arabic, English, Spanish, 


German, French and Russian.


The first step was the convening of a preparatory meeting in the period 8-9 Rabi Akher 1434 H, corresponding to 18 to 19 February 2013 in Istanbul, Turkey, and was attended by a group of specialist scientists and astronomers from different countries of the Islamic world and Muslim communities living in Europe, and that the level of official bodies and institutions concerned. It was decided to hold a major conference attended by scientists and decision-makers from the Muslim world, also it decided to do what the contract requires the formation of a scientific committee composed of specialists and forensic astronomers with the task of studying proposals on unification of lunar months and unified calendar. In implementation of this decision they form a scientific committee comprising experts in astronomy that are specialists in the affairs of Calendar and sighting of the moon as well as forensic specialists in the subject, and also participated in some meetings of the Committee and the jurisprudence of the orbit of experts to support the objectives of the Committee. Here are the names of the Scientific Committee and the experts who participated in the meetings:

The Committee asked the experts in the various countries of the world to provide suggestions for the Calendar, which can be adopted, the Commission has received more than a dozen of suggestions, and discussed in several meetings, and finally concluded to nominate two suggestions; the first is the Hijri dual calendar, and the second is one Hijri calendar, and these two suggestions will be discussed at the conference by God willing.
