Union mourns Sheikh Dr. Hassan Turabi, head of the Sudanese opposition Popular Congress Party

We have received, with hearts full of satisfaction, the death news of our brother Sheikh Dr. Hassan al-Turabi today’s evening, after suffering a coma in the morning and been transferred to a hospital in Khartoum in a critical condition.
Dr. Hassan al-Turabi, who died at the age of 84-year-old, is considered one of the most famous faces in politics and ideology in Sudan and the Islamic world, he studied law at the University of Khartoum, and then earned the degree in Oxford British University in 1957, and a doctorate at the University of the Sorbonne in Paris in 1964 and Turabi mastered four languages in addition to Arabic language speaks French, English and German fluently.
In 1996 he was elected president of the Sudanese parliament in the era of "Salvation Revolution", and was also chosen as secretary-general of the ruling National Conference in 1998.
Turabi has worked as a professor at the University of Khartoum and then Dean of the Faculty of Law and in July 1979 was appointed chairman of the committee in charge of reviewing laws for Islamisation and then was appointed minister of justice.
In 1988 he was appointed deputy prime minister in Sudan and foreign minister in the government of Sadiq al-Mahdi.
Later a dispute between him and President al-Bashir developed until a split occurred in the entity system in 1999, stripped Turabi of his posts official and party, then founded in 2001 "People's Congress", and went to prison several times during the reign of Jaafar Nimeiri.
Dr. Turabi authored several books and many articles, and various lectures, among his books:
Unity and freedom issues in 1980,
Renewal of jurisprudence in 1981,
The renewal of Islamic thought in 1982,
Governing forms of contemporary Islamic state in 1982,
Rollover 1984, the methodology of the legislation in 1987,
Political terms in Islam 0.2000.
The Islamic nation has lost in his death and one of the scholars, we ask ALLAH Almighty to forgive him, and bless his soul, and grant him the best reward, honors and honorable, and expands his resting place, and enter paradise, and hailing him His pleasure and mercy, and to be with whom ALLAH blessed them from the prophets and saints and martyrs and the righteous, and to inspire his family and loved ones in the brotherly Sudan and the Islamic world patience and fortitude.
