Obituary of landmark sheikh Qazi Hussain, Former Emir of the Jamaat-e-Islami

With a believing, accepting heart, the International Union of Muslim Scholars received the news of the departure of our honored brother sheikh Qazi Hussain, Former Emir of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) in Pakistan, one of the most prominent Islamic icons in Pakistan and the Muslim world, and member of the IUMS Veterans Council, who died at the age of 74. On behalf of the IUMS, we extend our sincere condolences to his family and to the JI.
The departed sheikh led the JI, founded by sheikh Abul A`la Mawdudi, and remained in leadership position for five consecutive rounds. He was elected member of the Pakistani Senate in 1985 then in 1992. He was also elected Member of Parliament in 2002 and hence had a pioneering role in numerous issues of major importance to the Muslim nation, on top of them the Palestinian issue, Kashmir, Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Chechnya, and Burma. In the course of his life, Qazi Hussain traveled to many Muslim countries to discuss these issues with other Islamic groups.

The Muslim nation has lost one of its leaders, scholars and intellects who always had the courage to say the truth without fear of blame. We pray that Allah will grant him forgiveness, mercy, reward him with the best, disembark him in a dignified dwelling, provide him with a spacious abode, make him a resident of Paradise, shower him with the blessings of His content, and resurrect him with the prophets, truthful believers, martyrs, and good men, and to give his family, people who love him, his colleagues, students and our brothers at the JI the patience and solace, for Allah is the Best Guardian and the Best Answerer to our prayers.
