IUMS blesses signing of final peace treaty in Darfur, values Qatari efforts, calls for establishing peace

All praise be to Allah and peace and blessings be upon Muhammad, God’s messenger, his family, companions and followers;

The International Union of Muslim Scholars has followed for years the Darfur issue where conflict and violence throughout the duration of a decade lead to the death and injury of thousands of inhabitants of the Darfur region in fellow Sudan and caused nearly 1.4 million people (according to UN estimates) to be displaced or become refugees. Consistent efforts were exerted throughout this time to bring peace to Darfur and were crowned with the signing of the final peace agreement between the Sudanese government and the Justice and Equality Movement in the Qatari capital prior to the donor conference held in Doha on 7-8 April 2013. Prior to this agreement, another was signed between the government and the Liberation and Justice Movement in 2011 based on the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur”.

In view of this historic agreement, the IUMS asserts the following:

First: the union supports and blesses the final peace agreement between the Government of Sudan and the Justice and Equality Movement signed in the Qatari capital prior to the conference for donors to Darfur held in Doha on 7-8 April 2013 and values the Qatari pioneering role in this regard after keen efforts to unite the Sudanese in Darfur based on the "Doha Document for Peace in Darfur”.

Second: the union calls the Sudanese government and all opposition sides and shades in Darfur to unite around one word and dedicate all efforts to empowering the concept of continuing dialogue between brothers in Darfur to preserve the gains of these agreements signed within this period with the purpose of bringing comprehensive peace to Darfur and all of Sudan and achieve the higher interests of the country and people. The union also calls on Arab and Muslim countries as well as the UN to support peace, stability and comprehensive development in Darfur.

Third: the union, through this statement, urges all Arab and Muslim governments to reconcile with their people, grant them the freedoms and rights secured to them within Islam and international covenants and laws, and to relinquish injustice and dictatorship for which there is no place in this new era.

And from Allah is all assistance!

{And say: "Work (righteousness): Soon will Allah observe your work, and His Messenger, and the Believers: Soon will ye be brought back to the knower of what is hidden and what is open: then will He show you the truth of all that ye did."} [Quran 9:105]
