IUMS urges dialogue, peaceful action in Mali

The International Union of Muslim Scholars
Demands all sides in Mali to stop the armed operations, to prevent sedition and foreign intervention
Demands immediate intervention by the OIC and African Union to fulfill their responsibility and smother strife

All praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His messenger Muhammad, his family, companions and followers.

The International Union of Muslim Scholars has been following with extreme concern the serious incidents taking place in the Sahara region in North Africa, western countries’ hastened moves to issue a UN resolution over military intervention and the relentless attempts to barge some Muslim, African countries in the tribulations of internal war. This is not to mention the repercussions of military operations that would shake security and stability in the whole region and lead the country into a state of creative chaos, conflicts, and bloodshed in addition to the displacement of thousands of people to the borders and death of innocent people to whom Allah referred as "if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people” (Quran 5: 32). We must not fail to note that on top of all this, the region is showing signs of a starvation that would affect millions due to the drought hitting the region.
Seeing this regrettable situation, and the recent tragic developments, the IUMS stresses the following:

First: The IUMS demands all sides to stop armed operations and provide security for everyone to prevent sedition and foreign intervention. The Union calls on all Islamic militant groups to respond to the calls of wisdom and mercy and exert all effort to fend off this strife that destroys resources and lives.

Second: The IUMS calls on charity organizations and relief agencies to take speedy initiatives to provide relief to those affected by the draught before the situation rises to a starvation.

Third: The IUMS calls on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation as well as regional and African unions and organizations to exert all possible effort to help Mali out of this crisis and urges them to make peaceful intervention to stifle this subversive situation.

Fourth: Stemming from the Islamic methodology of preserving the unity of the nation as far as possible, the IUMS urges all sides to resort to dialogue, to sit and negotiate a just solution that would satisfy all sides within light of the Islamic regulating Sharia and its principles to prevent a fragmentation of the country that would weaken all sides and only benefit the enemies. Allah Almighty has reminded us to "hold fast, all together, by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves; and remember with gratitude Allah’s favour on you; for you were enemies and He joined your hearts in love, so that by His Grace, you became brethren; and you were on the brink of the pit of Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus does Allah make His Signs clear to you: That you may be guided.” (Quran 3:103).

Fifth: The Union expresses complete readiness to be part of any positive, reforming role to stifle this sedition that – should it take place, God forbid – would go to extents that only God knows.

And our last call is that all praise be to Allah, the Sustainer of the worlds!
