IUMS condemns barbaric massacres against protesters in Bangladesh, holds government responsible

All praise be to Allah and peace and blessings be upon Muhammad, God’s messenger, his family, companions and followers;

The International Union of Muslim Scholars has followed with great pain and concern the developments of the tragedy befalling the Bengali Muslim people at the hands of their oppressive government, the assaults committed against their souls and sacred rights, and the contempt of sanctities in the bloody campaign where thousands of innocent souls were taken, and where the sentiment of millions of Muslims around the world were taken lightly, what we can but denounce and condemn with all strength and firmness.

And we hereby in this statement:

• Affirm our strict solidarity with the Bangladeshi Muslim people in their ordeal, particularly the scholars of Shariah law, Da`wa callers to Allah, Shariah schools, and charity and social support organizations, asking Allah to fortify them in ordeals, reward them in calamities, and grant them a speedy relief.

• We call all Muslims in Bangladesh to cooperate and rise above the political and ideological differences, personal objectives, and partial issues in order to be able to stand in the face of the secular attack and regional as well as international scheming. And let them remember the words of Allah Almighty who reminds that {The Believers are but brothers} [Quran 49: 10] and the words of Prophet Muhammad – peace and blessings be upon him – who said that "A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim; he does him no injustice, nor does he forsake him (to be the victim of another's injustice).”

• We call the Bangladeshi government to return to its senses, establish justice among its citizens, work on providing security, guarantee freedom and trust among the constituents of the precious Bengali people, direct energies toward the battle of national building, combating regression and ignorance, and facing the challenges of globalization.

• We call upon Muslim countries and organizations, at the forefront of them the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, all world countries, regional and international agencies, and humanitarian and rights organizations to take serious initiatives and cooperate effectively using all legitimate, peaceful means to put an end to the ordeals afflicted on the Muslim Bangladeshi people immediately and without delay.

• We at the IUMS – despite the lack of response on the part of the Bangladeshi government regarding our former friendly efforts – reemphasize our willingness to remain a goodwill mediator in any fair settlement that guarantees to our brothers in Bangladesh their freedom, dignity, and gives them back their rights.

And we pray to Allah the Exalted to guide everyone to what He loves and pleases, to grant security and faith, safety and Islam to Muslim nations, to invoke good relations between governments and Muslim people in the form that achieves dignity to Islam and elevation to Muslims. Amen, and peace and blessings be upon our messenger Muhammad, upon his family and companions.
